Traditional recipe donuts with icing

We never tire of tasting donuts at snack time and this time I took the traditional American recipe of fried donuts coated with icing sugar icing.

Making homemade donuts is easier than you might think, the recipe requires about 2 hours of standing. With the same donut dough, you can use other glazes: chocolate, vanilla, or any other flavoring with different colorings.

The donuts I'm offering you today are old-fashioned and this is how I prefer them. Of course, you can stuff them with jam, coat them with chocolate ganache or even choose a strawberry glaze and sprinkle them with chocolate sprinkles, etc ... but the best in my eyes are the fried donuts glazed with sugar and with the autumn climate is so comforting accompanied by a good coffee or a hot chocolate.

Homemade donut donuts like Dunkin 'Donut flavored with nutmeg and coated with frosting! This donut recipe is easy to make and ready in 2 hours.

Ingredients :

  • 250 g flour
  • 120 ml lukewarm milk
  • 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 30 g sugar
  • 40 g butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Icing:
  • 240 g icing sugar, sifted
  • 80 ml milk or full cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions :

  1. In a bowl, pour the milk with added yeast and sugar. Cover and let stand for about 10 minutes or until the mixture is foamy.
  2. Add the egg, soft butter as well as vanilla, and nutmeg.
  3. Stir in the flour mixed with the salt and knead until the dough comes off the sides. Add flour 1 tbsp at a time if necessary. Slightly sticky dough is obtained.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured work surface and knead for about 2-5 minutes.
  5. Lightly grease a salad bowl and place the dough. Cover the bowl with cling film and a tea towel.
  6. Let rise for about 1h30 to 2h (this will depend on the temperature of the room).
  7. Degas the dough and roll it out using a rolling pin to a thickness of 1 cm.
  8. Using a cookie cutter of about 8 cm, cut out circles in the shape of rings.
  9. Place as you go on a baking sheet covered with baking paper.
  10. Cover with a tea towel and let stand.
  11. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large saucepan which should reach a temperature of 190 C.
  12. Gently place 2 to 3 donuts in the pan and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side.
  13. Carefully remove with a skimmer and place on a wire rack.
  14. Prepare the icing:
  15. Whisk together ingredients until smooth.
  16. Dip the donuts one by one of the two sides in the frosting and place on a wire rack to let the excess frosting runoff.
  17. Let dry about 30 minutes before serving.

Prepare the Icing :

  1. Whisk together all the icing ingredients.
  2. Dip each hot donut in the frosting, coating both sides.
  3. Gradually place on a rack and let dry for about 30 minutes.
